Qualifications
 

Dr. Nakanishi has been directing, managing, and performing technical research studies in the field of transportation for over 14 years. In addition to her doctorate in Transportation Planning and Engineering from Polytechnic University, she holds an MS in Civil Engineering from the City College of New York, MBA in Management from Columbia University, and BA from Harvard University. She is actively involved in national and local transportation organizations, has published numerous scholarly articles, and is co-editor of a 2004 Elsevier publicationEconomic Impacts of Intelligent Transportation Systems: Innovations and Case Studies.

As Chair of the Subcommittee on Training, Education, and Technology Transfer and Member of the TRB Critical Transportation Infrastructure Protection Committee, Dr. Nakanishi has spearheaded the development of a training database, authored papers, and organized sessions and workshops on security and training issues.  As Chair of the New York Area Data Council, Dr. Nakanishi was instrumental in successfully expanding the professional organization and providing it with a formalized Board structure.  Dr. Nakanishi is ITS-NY Treasurer-Secretary, was the 2004 Annual Meeting Chair, and has been ITS-NY Board Member since 2002. 

Dr. Nakanishi is the recipient of the 2006 TRB Excellence Award.  She is also a former Eno Fellow and Eisenhower Fellowship recipient.
